In The Visit: Storm Returns, our favorite family in their small yellow car is making another trip to Nana's house. This time they are not seeking refuge from an approaching storm, but are instead bringing relief and rescue to Nana and Poppa whose community, far from the coast, has been shockingly decimated by a hurricane overnight.
The author never imagined she would write another story inspired by her personal experience with hurricanes. Her first book: The Visit: A Hurricane Fable was written in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian in Southwest Florida in 2022. Unbelievably, two years later, Hurricane Helene's wind, rain and tornados ravaged coastal and inland communities across six states, including the author's new hometown in south Georgia. The Visit: Storm Returns remembers the pain these communities endured and celebrates all those who came or sent help in their time of need.
Again, even though this story is presented in a picture-book format, the subject matter is best understood by older readers or explained by adults. Hurricane Helene impacted - and will continue to impact for years - more people than can be counted. Hurricane season will return, and with it, memories of the past and concern for the future. It is the prayer of the author that her books will promote healing as everyone shares their stories and remembers God's faithfulness.
